Caretta is a Boheme 49, also known as Eclipse 472 when professionally built by AB shipyards in France. The design, with it pedigree lines and elegant, racy look, is pure Gerard Danson, the visionary naval architect who designed the Outremers Yachts and launched performance cruising catamarans on the forefront of the Bluewater cruising world.
Caretta has only had 2 owners. The first, who had the boat built for him in 2012, spent the first 4 years of ownership designing and finishing the interior to a more refined level.
In spite of her great power, this catamaran is designed to be easily handled by a couple with a focus on comfort, performance, and safety – a perfect choice for serious ocean cruisers.
Combining extraordinary performance upwind and yet offering a very comfortable interior perfectly suited to long-range cruising and family live-aboard in comfort and safety, Caretta is a successful combination of Outremer Yachting attribute for speed and exhilaration, mixed with the plush comfort of a Catana or Dolphin Catamaran.

A Word From the Owners
“We bought this Eclipse 472 in 2015 and renamed it Caretta. We had before another catamaran with which we had sailed in the Mediterranean Sea but as we planned to travel around the world, we were looking for a boat equipped for the long trip and well offshore. We found everything we were looking for in Caretta : speed and comfort without forgetting safety.
We left France 5 years ago and traveled with her from Europe to Fiji through Africa, South America, Caribean Sea and French Polynesia. It is therefore a boat that has proven herself in terms of navigation (3 Atlantic crossings, 1 Pacific crossing, 38 600 nautic miles). She goes particularly upwind as well as most monohulls and can easily sails in light winds thanks to her Gennaker or her spinnaker.
She is from a plan of Gérard Danson (Outremer). We find the slimness of the hulls that allows the boat to be fast. Otherwise, the volume of the galley and the general comfort are superior to an Outremer of the same size.
Caretta was first built in AB marine dockyard for the hulls which are made of wood and epoxy above the waterline and in pure monolithic epoxy below. All the parts below the waterline is foamed which makes the boat unsinkable. The stern has been lengthened which improves stability while sailing and offers comfortable access for boarding. Then the previous owner did the rest of the contruction by himeslf with great care, using only high quality materials. This is what impressed us the most the first time we saw the boat : she seemed very solid.
Moreover, we fell for the open space on the deck. It allowed us to rig the windsurf boards easily and to practice yoga sessions everyday sometimes with friends up to 7 people.
We loved the cockpit which has often received many friends and also the large galley (22m²).
We had such a good time on board that is not without sadness we will leave Caretta but it is time for us to have new projects ashore. And we really hope that other people can enjoy this wonderful life on Caretta as much as we did.”
