Description

A blisteringly fast trimaran dinghy day boat capable of well over wind speed and high speeds in the lightest of winds.
This trimaran is the third in a series designed for sailing and camping in the Western Isles of Scotland. Built to the design of Ian Biles, the current boat was designed to be lighter and faster than the previous two.
The entire boat has been constructed of pre-impregnated carbon fibre with the main hull and two outriggers being laminated by Baltic Wharf in Totnes, using sandwich construction. The cross beams are wound carbon fibre poles, the rig is a 49er mast (all carbon), 49er sails, two all carbon asymmetric daggerboards and a short Tushingham carbon pole for the asymmetric. spinnaker. The two trampolines were made to measure by Dart Sails, Dartmouth. Allen Performance high aspect ratio rudder with two 2.5m tiller extensions.
The design is such that the entire boat can be trailed behind a car and assembled on a beach pretty much anywhere.

Further Details
Whilst the exact weight is not known precisely it is estimated to be approximately 70kg fully assembled and rigged i.e. it can be lifted and carried by two people.
The rig is fitted with two hiking points for both skipper and crew to trapeze with the tiller extensions long enough to allow this.
It takes approximately 2 hours to fully rig the boat.
Initial sailing trials were carried out in Plymouth Sound in June 2021 (first time on the water) and this is where the video and photographs were taken.
Whilst successful in terms of speed and stability (sailing reasonably flat most of the time) it did not work in terms of carrying capacity as the overall volume when loaded with heavy camping gear takes the boat too low in the water.
This sale will fund the move on to the fourth in the series.
The tooling for the main hull (plug and mould) are included with the sale.
